Not sure what to say?

I remember Fred so well. He taught me about Lenape stoneworks. We had great conversations and I taught him how to dowse for skeletal remains in the cairns.

Fred will always be remembered as a true friend. Just being around Fred made people feel happy. I will always remember fondly our time spent in the woods discovering sacred sites. You are missed my Brother.

The Werkheiser family has truly lost a very special person. I met Frederick at the Werkheiser Shoe Store in Nazareth when my aunt was a resident in Moravian Hall Square's Galilee House and she needed shoes and slippers. I stopped in to explain that she had Alzheimers and might be difficult to work with. He told me not to worry and set up an appointment so he could give her the attention she would need. He was so amazing! He made her feel so special, worked with her and was so patient...

Debbie, I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband.

You will remain in my prayers. Sending

We hear about sacred sites in some parts of the U.S. but not in the northeast. Fred changed that. Words are not sufficient to describe the importance of Fred’s work to the Lenape as well as adjoining tribes. One cannot visit the stoneworks without a sense of awe. Wanishi Fred. It is our job to continue what you began.

Sincere condolences to the family and to everyone who knew this great man. I was honored to have worked with him on protection of sacred sites, and The Lenape Nation of Pa will continue to work towards preservation of the sites in his memory and honor.

So many high school memories with Fred. Playing pool & guitar (he was as good as Simon & Garfunkel), his creativity, his love of homemade pizza. Such dedication to the American Indian sites. Deepest sympathy to his family & may your wonderful memories provide you comfort.

Deb: I'm so sorry to read about the passing of your husband. I hope time and your wonderful memories help you find peace. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I will always treasure my time spent with Fred (Stone Chief) exploring for stone sites. Our people will miss him and we will keep him alive in our stories.
