Not sure what to say?

My condolences to Dougs family. 85 years ago we were best buddies thru many questionable adventures and I still have scars to prove it. Time and circumstances separated us in the middle of high school. Kept in touch, but never met again, although came close during our Navy war years. Still have some very early letters and cards from "Fred". Any family members interested in them please contact me at [email protected]. John Reamy

Doug was a good friend, salmon trips on the Columbia river, negotiating a price when buying a car or van from me, he was tough! Doug maybe we can fish in Heaven. Bryan Bickmore

I was a young reporter at KGW-TV in the 70's and Doug was, of course, already an icon in the newsroom.
But he was always approachable, often funny, and encouraging. He was a role model for me of what it meant to be a hard-working, professional -- and at the same time, having fun and taking pride in our work.
May you always hold a good hand in Heaven, Doug, and par every course up there!
Dan LaGrande

He sure was part of Portland's early TV history. Always fun to watch, a true Oregon sportsman.

I enjoyed engineering the news with Doug in both the old and new KGW studios. Those were the days! My condolences to Doug's family.

I had the fun of working with Doug at KGW when I was there between 11981 and 1991. Whenever I subbed as anchor for the noon news, he was the sports guy next to me. I always enjoyed working with him--he had a great sense of humor. Patty and I shared a love of Shirley Temple and she was such a sweetie. My condolences to the family--I feel privileged to have worked with one of the "icons" of Portland TV!

As a Floor Director at the old KGW, Doug was my favorite out of Richard Ross, John Cardis, Beverly Williams, Jack Capell, Rick Stossel and Co.

He led the quintessential Oregon life .... from high school, war, marriage to his sweetheart, great kids, great grand kids, loved sports and the outdoors and died peacefully at 94.

The perfect Oregon life.

I always loved the way he would ask me how to pronounce the names of any Australian sports person in the news.He wanted to be...

I enjoyed watching Doug's Sunday night Duck and Beaver football highlights in grade school in the late 60's. He was one of the all time great Oregon TV sports reporters. My sympathies go out to his family.
