I just found out about Monte's passing. I send my sincere sympathy to the family, especially his son. Whittier was a better city with Monte and his family as leaders in the community.

I had heard that Monte had passed away, but I just found this memorial page. He was my next door neighbor for much of my childhood, and he was a fun guy to have around. I had no idea he was 99 - he seemed so youthful and full of life. I remember his mysterious motorcycle (though I mostly heard it roar.) On the 4th of July when all the neighborhood would shoot off their fireworks in the street, he always showed up with the best and brightest ones! When my dad passed away in 2001, he came over...

We lost such a persona in our community. May God give strength and courage to face adversities. Do not lose hope.

I'm so glad to have found this wonderful blog. I was born and raised in Whittier and frequented Monte's camera store for many years. They had a great reputation for being honest, provided quality product & great customer service. I purchased my cameras from Monte's. I had my wedding photos developed there because I could count on quality results. It was always the "go to" photo shop. It brings back wonderful memories of going to a camera store to have film developed & prints made &...

I started dealing with Monte at his store in 1954. In 1959 he hired me for a few months after college while I was waiting for an opening in a reserve unit to materialize. I have lived in the Midwest and the East since 1960, so I seldom saw him after leaving Whittier. Whenever I was in town, he was always glad to see me. He was a super guy and a real gentleman - great to deal with and great to work for - and his store was a happy place. I'm pleased that he had such a good, long life. He's one...

I am so sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in what is recorded in the Bible at Jeremiah 29:11 and 12. There it tells us what God's thoughts are for us. Thoughts of peace, not calamity . He wants to give us a future and a hope.

Monte was a kind person. Always polite and helpful as are his sons. You always found what you needed regarding photography in his shop. When my children were small, my husband who had a shop uptown also, would call me to let me know that Monte's windows were decorated, Christmas theme, trains, etc. They remember standing there enthralled with the window decorations. He will be remembered always. Our deepest sympathy to his family.

Monte was a class act and a wonderful person. One of my favorite Whittier People. He truly served this community on every level possible. He will be missed, one of a kind.
