Fun Geong Obituary

Fun Yee Geong

October 22, 1924 - June 5, 2017

Fun Yee Geong passed away peacefully at the age of 92. Fun was born in 1924 in a Toishan village near Guangzhou, China. In 1941, he immigrated to the US as a paper son of Hong Geong to New York City. In 1942 he joined the US Army as a marked rifleman. After WWII ended, he attended technical school studying architectural design. In 1948 he returned to HK to marry his first wife, Jane Fong and settled in San Francisco to raise a family. After retiring from Matson Navigation Company in 1986, he enjoyed traveling with his family throughout the US and the world and visiting the casinos.
Fun was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane and his second wife, Susan. Fun is survived by his son, William (Mary), daughter, Mabel Chaw (Myron), grandchildren Jennifer, Danielle, Ryan, Kyle and many nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, 6/20/17 at 4:30 pm at Green Street Mortuary, 649 Green Street, SF.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Fun's memory may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.

Please accept our belated condolences on the passing of one of our Chinese American World War II Veterans. Mr. Geong served in the U.S. Army as a proud member of the 987th Signal Operations Company. He has now been honored with the Congressional Gold Medal. Our grateful appreciation to him and his family.
