HOLLAND-WILSON, G. Seporia, entered into eternal rest at her residence on Monday, March 28, 2011. She was born on May 1, 1943 to Addie and Lexie Holland in Newport News, Va. Seporia was a graduate of Maggie Walker High School and earned a B.S. degree from Bennett College and a M.S. degree from Southern Connecticut State College. She engaged in further study at the University of Massachusetts and Columbia University. Seporia began her career as an elementary school teacher in Jacksonville, N.C. She relocated to New Haven, Conn., where she served in several capacities a health and plysical education instructor, guidance counselor and assistant principal. In 1986, she returned to Richmond, where she served as head of the Guidance Department at John Marshall High School until her retirement. For a number of years, she served as coordinator of the Keenan Project (a program for at-risk children) and the liaison between John Marshall High School and Virginia Union University. Seporia was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, the National Alliance of Black School Educators, Fun Inc. and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and was vice president of the Richmond Chapter of Continental Societies Inc., where she provided service until health challenges limited her active participation. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband, Benny H. Wilson Jr.; godmother, Dr. Lois Harrison-Jones Fears (Anthony) of Mitchellville, Md.; brother, Michael Daughtry (Diane) of Brooklyn, N.Y.; stepson, Benny T. Wilson (Evelyn) of Birmingham, Ala.; stepdaughter, Ida V. Wilson, Bowie, Md.; stepgrandchildren, Kamau, Kwesi, Marjani, Malaika, Ayanna and Aliyah of Bowie, Md.; cousins, Sharon Shamari and Wayne Maryland; sister-in-law, Barbara Moreland of Birmingham Ala.; brother-in-law, Dr. George P. Wilson (Zenobia) of Durham, N.C.; childhood friends, Barbara Giles (Ralph) and Sandra Hurtt; and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., Richmond, Va. Rev. Wallace J. Cook officiating. Genevive Seporia Holland-Wilson will sorely be missed. She was uniquely effervescent, kind-hearted and always reached out to help others. Once you met her, you remembered her positive self presentation and excellent communication skills - a wonderful person, and a joy to be in her presence.

May her great memory live-on in family, friends and others who knew and loved her so dearly. May God's bountiful blessings keep her light burning, and grant her eternal peace in heaven.

I know that she is smiling down on us all from Heaven. My deepest sympathies to the family during this difficult time. I worked with Seporia at John Marshall HS. She was a delightful woman, who was always quick with a hug and guiding words. Many prayers go out to all of you.

To the family of Mrs. Holland-Wilson, I'd like to extend my deepest sympathy. She was my counselor at John Marshall. She was also like a mother to me. Mrs. Holland-Wilson was a wonderful, loving and caring person. She had such a grafeful presence about her. She always made sure you knew that she loved you, and that you were special to her. I am forever grateful to have known her. I will miss her deeply. Always in my heart she will forever be.
