Mr. Gabe Barnes, Sr. departed this life on January 27, 2012, with his family at his side.
Gabe was born on August 8, 1923 to Gabe and Rhoda Barnes in Shaw, Mississippi. Both parents preceded him in death. Gabe was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and moved to Chicago.
Gabe was married to Mary, and from this union Percy, Charles, Barbara and Gabe, Jr. were born. Gabe was preceded in death by Mary and son Percy. Gabe married Fannie and from this union Shirley and Julita were born.
Gabe was a long time memeber of Second Mount Vernon MB Church.
Gabe leaves to cherish his memories his children; Charles, Barbara, Gabe, Jr., Shirley (Nate) and Julita (Darren); brothers and sisters Artist, Esther, El (Jesse), Gloria, Christine (Ray), Amos, Sam, Terry, Jimmy (Gloria)and Aaron. Grandchildren Shannell, LaRon, LaVell, Darryl, Saretha, Latacia, Jamae, Robert, Vaneicie, and Vaneicia. Also a host of family and friends.
Services celebrating his life will be held on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., Second Mt. Vernon M.B. Church, 7922 S. Hoyne Avenue, Chicago.
Visitation and viewing will take place prior to the funeral services at 10:00 a.m. at Second Mt. Vernon M.B. Church.
Interment will take place immediately following all services at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Joliet, Ill with Military Honors.
