Manning-Heffern-O’Neill Funeral Home - Pawtucket Obituary

Gabriel, A. Duarte Sr., of Riverside passed into eternal life on June 10, 2022. He was the loving husband of Jo-Ann (Nason) Duarte for over thirty-seven years. The two met in Pawtucket while Gabriel was riding around on his 3-wheel motorcycle. They have been together ever since.

Mr. Duarte was born in Faial, an island in the Azores, and was the son of the late Antonio Duarte and Maria (Gomes) Duarte. He was a supervisor at Key Container in Pawtucket for forty-four years.

Besides his wife Jo-Ann, Gabriel is survived by his sons, Gabriel A. Duarte, Jr. and his partner Leana Balasco of West Warwick, and David G. Duarte and his partner Ebony Correia of Tiverton. His sister, Lidia Alves and her husband Joe of Pawtucket, and his grandchildren, Darian Duarte, Bryson Duarte and Skyla Duarte as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his very loyal dogs, Tasha, Buddy and Zoey.

Known as the “Yes Man” by his family, Gabriel was not one to say no and would drop whatever he was doing to help anyone in need or lend a hand for a favor.

Outside of work, Gabriel was a lifetime member of the Holy Ghost Brotherhood of Charity in East Providence and had many hobbies including riding his motorcycle, fishing with his grandchildren and golfing with his son. When he had a rest from daily tasks and jobs, Gabriel enjoyed watching UFC and boxing matches, golf events or cheering on his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys.

The funeral for Mr. Duarte will be Thursday, June 16th at 9:00 am from the Costigan-O’Neill Funeral Home, 220 cottage Street, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Xavier Church, 81 North Carpenter Street, East Providence at 10:00 am.

His burial will be in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket.

The calling hours for Gabriel will be Wednesday, June 15th from 4-7 pm in the funeral home.

Not sure what to say?

Just finding out that you passed. Saw a guy that reminded me of you and now I see this. It’s been many years since last seeing you. You were one of the nicest guys I grew up knowing. I’m so happy you found a loving kind wife and had a beautiful family. We were both young when we each married and life changed so much for all of us. You were always a friend, gentleman and outstanding person. I pray you had Jesus and a divine eternity to look forward to. RIP brother

Not a day goes by where I don’t think about you. We all miss you immensely and love you dad.

Thank you for everything vavo , nothing will ever be the same without you , atleast we all have a lot of good memories together, love you.

Dad - I will never forget everything you´ve taught me from childhood to adulthood, the countless favors you would do for me and how you were there for me whenever I needed you. It will be hard to turn to you for advice and not have you there. I will continue making you proud and will never forget every minute we´ve spent together. Until we see each other again.
