Honaker Funeral Home, Inc. - Slidell Obituary

Gabriel J. Raggio, resident of New Orleans and Lacombe, Louisiana passed away at age 87, on January 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Gabe was born to Hazel Newman Raggio on December 2, 1937.

He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on November 12, 1955. Gabriel met his beloved wife, Betty, at his very first meeting of Jehovah's Witnesses at their local Kingdom Hall in 1955. From that moment on, they shared a life full of love along with a fruitful ministry together. They were married for 62 years until her passing in 2019. Gabe often spoke of how happy he was to have shared such a long and fulfilling marriage with Betty and often talked about looking forward to seeing her again in the future Paradise on Earth.

Gabriel served Jehovah for over 69 years in many capacities. He was an elder for more than 45 years and a cherished member of the Hospital Liaison Committee. His love for Jehovah and zeal to talk about his Creator has led many to baptism.

Gabriel was affectionately known as "Big Gabe" as his son's name is also Gabriel Raggio. He and Betty raised their son, Gabriel known as "Gabey" to love and serve Jehovah. Even visiting Bethel in the 60s as a family. Gabe loved life. One of his favorite pastimes was visiting the Florida beach, where he could enjoy the beauty of nature with his family. Though his battle with Alzheimer’s was difficult, he remained joyful and faithful, always focused on the promise of Jehovah’s Kingdom.

He is survived by his son Gabriel Raggio (Gabey), his daughter-in-law Cindy, his two granddaughters, Harmony Archambault (husband Kevin) and Alaina Brupbacher (husband Dustin), and four great-grandchildren: Nicolette, Jonah, Jade, and Alexis.

Gabriel’s passing leaves us saddened, but we take comfort in his strong belief in Jehovah's promises. As he often taught, we look forward to the fulfillment of Revelation 21:4 and John 5:28, 29: When "Death will be no more," and "all those in the memorial tombs will come out."

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located on 1475 Fremaux Ave, Slidell, LA 70458 at 5:30 in the evening. Zoom link for attendance upon request. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support during this difficult time.
