Connor-Healy Funeral Home - Manchester Obituary

Gail (Polini) Bertel, 82, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on September 11, 2021.

Gail was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on November 6, 1938, the daughter of William Polini and Margaret (McSheehy) Polini. Gail graduated from South High School in Worcester, MA and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Worcester State College (now Worcester State University) in 1960. After a 35 year career with the telecom industry, Gail retired from Verizon in 2003.

Gail had a passion for gardening and working on her lawn, reading- especially Scandi Noir novels, and cooking. She loved foods from her Italian-Irish heritage and had a great talent for reinventing recipes. She enjoyed all sports, especially her Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. She followed politics closely. Calling herself a “proud liberal”, she relished a lively debate about current events. However, the greatest joy in Gail’s life was her family, which included her son Paul Bertel of Middletown, RI and his wife Pamela; her son Phillip Bertel of Manchester, NH and his life partner Kym Philibotte; her daughter and caregiver Kristin Bertel of Manchester, NH; her two beautiful grandchildren, Daniel Bertel of Middletown, RI and Heather Bertel of Nashua, NH; and her dear friend Cindy Hobbs of Manchester, NH.

Gail had an unceasingly positive outlook on life, often saying, “Always have something to look forward to”.  We look forward to making your recipes, cheering on your teams, and being with you again, someday, Mom.

Not sure what to say?

Kristin,my deepest sympathy in the loss of your mother. May she Rest In Peace.

Worked with her at New England Telephone back in the 70's. Admired her independence as a single hard-working mom. Amazing! Condolences to her loving family.
