Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg Obituary

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Gail Fuller, of Sterling, VA, our loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother on March 20, 2022. She left unexpectedly after suffering an aortic dissection and an extensive surgery at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA. She was 79 years old.

Gail Karen Righter was born to Burdett Walton Righter and Thelma Salanda Righter on July 26, 1942 in Washington D.C. She was raised in Cheverly, MD from the age of two and graduated from Bladensburg High School. She enjoyed participating in the pom squad and was a member of the choir at Cheverly United Methodist Church.

After high school, Gail attended The University of Maryland studying to be a nurse.

Gail married Emory Garland Fuller, originally from Haysi, VA, at Cheverly United Methodist Church. They were married for 58 years at the time of her passing. Gail was a loving and devoted stay-at-home mom to her three children. When the children were older, she worked part-time as a periodontal assistant and office manager in Manassas, VA.

Gail’s favorite hobbies were sewing many clothes for herself and her children,  crocheting, reading and especially tending to her beloved flower gardens. She also kept busy with many volunteer hours at her children's schools and for their sport teams.

She leaves to cherish her memories: husband Emory G. Fuller of Sterling, VA,  three children, Kevin S. Fuller and wife Marka J. of Simpsonville, SC, Kathy F. Thurston and husband Phillip S. of Mt. Airy, MD, and Keith B. Fuller of Marilla, NY. She also leaves five grandchildren: Emily E. Fuller, Evan G. Schmidt, Ryan P. Schmidt, Carter D. Schmidt, and Jason D. Thurston, as well as many other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Not sure what to say?

Gail was truly a special person, wife and mother. I knew her as my Aunt Gail. Uncle Garl is a younger brother to my deceased Mother. I have fond memories of Aunt Gail from family reunions at the Fuller home place in Haysi, VA. She always found a way to make family get-to-togethers fun. She will greatly missed by those who knew her but most especially by Garl, Kevin, Kathy and Keith and her grandchildren. With my deepest sympathy.....

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Aunt Gail will always be loved and remembered ❤

I didn't know Gail, but her son Keith has been a close colleague of mine for more than ten years now, and Keith always spoke fondly of his Mom and with deep admiration for her. In knowing the kind of person that she raised in Keith, I have to think that Gail was a special person and will be dearly missed. Please accept my condolences to her entire family.
