Byles Memorial Home - New London Obituary

Gail Ann Quinn McIntyre, 82, of Gales Ferry, died peacefully on Friday morning September 3, 2021at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, Connecticut.

Gail was born August 18, 1939 in Mt. Kisco, New York to Harry and Eleanor Gale Quinn.  She graduated in 1957 from Fox Lane High School of Bedford, NY.  This is where she met her husband, Pete McIntyre.

Gail and Pete married in Bedford Hills, NY and soon left Bedford Hills as Pete was in the US Navy.  They moved many times during their marriage, and Gail learned to be quite independent as Pete was commissioned as an officer and assigned to the submarine George C Marshall. He was gone for many months at time over the early course of their marriage, while she raised their daughters. Pete retired as a Lieutenant Commander, he and Gail settled in Gales Ferry just outside the Groton Submarine Base.

Gail worked as a secretary and a medical assistant for various organizations, the last of which was Mystic Medical Group, from where she retired after over 30 years.  Gail enjoyed gardening and volunteering at the Ledyard Food Pantry.  Gail was devoted to her husband and children.  She welcomed everyone into her home as if they were family.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Samuel Peter McIntyre; Daughters: Marcy Edmiston and her Husband Alan, Missy Tirrell and her husband Alan; Brother: Gary Quinn; Sister: Harriet Caputo and her husband Jim; Grandchildren: Jessica Smith and her husband Jeff, Jayme Tirrell, Cameron Edmiston and his wife Brianna, and Jeffrey Tirrell; 3 ½ Great Grandchildren: Tyler Smith, Ryan Smith, Emmie Edmiston and Emmie’s soon to be little sister; and many Nieces and Nephews.

An open house memorial honoring Gail will be held from 11:00am to 2:00pm September 25, 2021 at Langleys Restaurant, 28 Lamphere Road in Waterford, CT 06385. The family welcomes you to drop by share stories and memories with us.

Not sure what to say?

thanks for friendship and servouses.

As I say goodbye to a friend, I am so very sad. We shared many times together as our husbands went on patrols and gave us time to bond as an extended family. You will be missed by many. Sending love your way Gail.
