Garry Lawrence Wilson, of Flint, age 84, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 6, 1928 in Bay City, Michigan, grew up in Pinconning, and graduated from Pinconning High School in 1944. He married Kathleen McDonald on June 16, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church in Kawkawlin. They moved to Flint and raised their six children. Garry went to work at Consumers Power in 1951 and retired from the company in 1990. Garry and Kathleen traveled extensively, sharing many of those trips with family and friends. Garry was artistic and creative, expressing those gifts through his singing, pottery, photography, framing, poetry, designing, and building. He could fix anything. He loved to read, do crossword puzzles, research genealogy, play dominoes, and watch movies; was great at Jeopardy; laughed easily; and loved big. He cared deeply for others, advocating for social justice throughout his life. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 61 years, Kathleen, and children: Julia (John) Frary of Grandview Heights, OH; Kevin (Brenda) of Flint; Michael (Colleen) of Flint; Lisa (Robert) Stadvec of Westfield Center, OH; Terese (Kim) Knag of Grand Blanc, and Maureen (David Walter) of Bowling Green, OH; Grandchildren: Rebecca and Monica Wilson, Jenna Frary, Andrew and Hallie Stadvec, Kirstin and Kelsey Knag, Sarah (Adam) Howell; Jeffery (Jennifer) Sanders; and Carly and Cameron Walter; Great grandchildren: Brenna and Grant Howell; Kira, Karina, Kaden and Keagan Sanders; Brother: Gerald Wilson; Sisters-in-law: Monica Paige, Genevieve Alarie, Cecilia (Howard) Paige, Irene McDonald, and Donna Johnson; Brother-in-law: Daniel (Doreen) McDonald; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Julia (Guinan) Wilson. Visitation at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, on Sunday, April 7 from 2-8, wake service at 7. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 8 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, G3139 Hogarth Avenue, Flint, Father Robert Copeland officiating. Visitation at the church at 9:30 on Monday. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Kawkawlin, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the North End Soup Kitchen or Genesys Hospice. Not sure what to say?

Garry was a great neighbor for many years, he loved to do yard work & building things which he was a pro, he always helped all neighbors with their problems. He is greatly missed by all

Dear Kathleen and family, Was very sad to just learn of Garry's death. I remember the nice reunion my high school friend and I had with you and Garry a few years ago. We had fun sharing family history and regret that we could not stay long enough to share lunch with you. Through the years I have thought of you often. God Bless.
