Not sure what to say?

Sandy, so sorry for your loss. Gary was such. Big part of the running community for decades and impacted so many people´s lives in a positive way. I do remember all the runs and races fondly but mostly I remember what a kind hearted and giving person he was to others. He will be missed but not forgotten.

As a fellow runner, Gary was one of the first people that I met when I moved to Roanoke in 1986. So many great memories of Star City Strider days! He will be missed. Sandy, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sandy, Nancy and I send our condolences in Gary's passing. He was a wonderful and inspirational leader in the running community. Chris & Nancy Miller

Gary defined honesty, respectfulness, kindness, gentleness, fitness and the willingness to support those around himself. His impact on students he counseled and his impact on friends while running and cycling, is immeasurable. The impact you made will be felt for many years.

Sandy, I am so sad for your loss. I remember us talking about Gary when I first came to your dental practice all those years ago. Gary was my guidance counselor at Virginia Western and he was so kind and supportive. I give him credit for my success at VWCC as a first generation college graduate and my later studies at UVA. I always loved catching up with your adventures during my dental appointments and enjoyed running into you two out in the community. He was a wonderful fellow and I hope...

Oh Sandy.... There just are no words to fully express our sorrow to hear about Gary. The world has truly lost a beautiful soul. Lifting you up in prayer as you grieve the loss of your wonderful husband!

He was a wonderful neighbor and friend we will miss his smiling face

My dear friend of 40 years has left us way too soon. He has been one of my closest friends all this time and we shared so many good times together. He was first a great human being, full of positive feelings for all who came in contact with him. I remember him most for his competitive spirit in running and many other athletic venues. We trained together for 20 plus years and competed against each other. He was always a tough competitor and always gracious, whether in winning or losing. ...

A gentle Spirit who was a joy to hang with.... you will be missed Gary.... but never forgotten... and Blessings to Sandy who was his equal in Spirit... May your journey be gentle....
