The best part of Gary's life is still with us. His character and intelligence that he passed on to each of us who knew him was his best attribute. I loved his sense of calmness and his willingness to have an open exchange of dialogue even if you disagreed on the principles of discussion. His physical presence may have passed, but his attributes will be indelible etched in my mind and heart. Brad Dopps

Gary was the best Grandpa any girl could ever ask for. He was always there for me to listen and provide me with encouragement and advice right when I needed it. He was also so good at getting me to think about what I believe and why I believe it. I am very, very sorry to learn of Gary´s passing, and I regret deeply that I am not able to share one more afternoon with this kind and thoughtful man. You helped me in a difficult period to keep alive a part of myself that I was afraid of losing, and I am so grateful for the time we spent together. Those conversations...

What a great and appropriate tribute to Gary´s life. In just a few years, we became good friends over coffee at Starbucks. Gary was humble, thoughtful, funny, and so well read. I am missing our sharing of theological, social, and political conversations. He taught me so much and challenged me to consider other views. We bonded in part because we both grew up in Kansas, we called God´s country.
