Surrounded by family, Gary Creager passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024, at the age of 58. Gary put up a good fight against FTD/ALS. He was born on April 5th, 1966. Gary is survived by his high school sweetheart of 36 years Jeannine (Pettit) and is cherished by his three children, Adam, Eric, and Madison.
Gary dedicated his life to his family. He was a retired firefighter, dedicating 32 years of service to his hometown of Chicago. Gary was the dear brother of the late Charles Creager, Barb (John) Whiteside, Rick (Patty) Creager, Liz (Ted Sr) Aquino, and Wayne (Julie) Boi. He was a fond uncle to many nephews and cousins and an irreplaceable friend to many.
Although he left us too soon, he lived a life full of fishing with his favorite uncle Walter. He enjoyed time at the cottage fishing the pond, which he stocked personally with fish they caught. He participated in softball, negotiated for the best deals, and played slot machines at the casino. He was the life of the party and loved a good poker game.
Gary was an exceptional father, husband, and friend. He loved his family beyond words. Gary will be greatly missed by many, may he always watch over us and rest in peace.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home 7812 N. Milwaukee Ave. Niles, Funeral Saturday 9:00 AM to St. Juliana Church for 10:00 AM Mass. Interment Maryhill Cemetery. Funeral info 847-966-7302 or www.skajafuneralhomes.com

I’m so sorry to hear of Gary’s passing. I had the privilege of working with him on Engine 14, and I will always remember those times fondly. Gary was an outstanding firefighter who took immense pride in his work. One of his greatest traits was his leadership in the firehouse—his infectious sense of humor kept everyone’s spirits high. My deepest condolences go out to his wife and children. May they find comfort in knowing that Gary was truly one of a kind.
