Martha, I am so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. I knew I hadn't seen him at the last couple of reunions. He was a precious person and will be greatly missed.

My late father (James Slaton) was also a Tech grad. Class of 1948 Textile engineer. (lost three years to WWII) I heard him often speak highly of Gary. You never know how a person can touch another persons life. May the good Lord comfort the Deiters family.

Growing up in West End, I always looked forward to being around Gary. He was the best sports fan I ever knew - knew every athlete from Brown High, Georgia Tech, Georgia, the Braves - you name him, Gary would have a story, and would tell it with a funny twist. What a wonderful friend and man. Martha and family, we may never have told you how much we loved Gary as a friend, and it is a shame that it takes a loss like this to bring out our true feelings in words that would buoy your soul. I hope my words do that now, and I pray that God will soothe your crushed emotions and bless you with courage to face a Gary-less future, but brightened with memories of a life well lived and appreciated by us all who are patches on the Brown High quilt.

Prayers are with the entire Deiters family as you begin dealing with such a terrible loss..........I have so many happy memories growing up on Pine Valley across from this terrific family and feel privileged to have known Gary as we were all going through those crazy teen-aged times. My thoughts are with Martha and the rest of you in the coming days.

Gary left many wonderful memories for his family and for his neighbors. I will always remember his smiling face and humor while broadcasting the Tech games from his front yard in East Point! May the peace of our Lord be with the family at this time is my prayer.

Greetings to all,
My name is Michael D. Skelton and I lived on the other end of Pine Valley Circle and knew Mr. Deiters from being friends with his sons, Michael and Brian. Mr Deiters was always very tolerant of us kids as we hung out in his basement many times over the years in the early and mid eighties. We put him and Mrs. Deiters through more hell than he deserved but he put up with us probably more than he have should. Mr. Deiters was a nice and gracious man and I will never forget him for that quality. I have many fond memories of him at that time.
I was one of those kids that Mr. Deiters hired at Pioneer Heddle and Reed and I am very appreciative that he did that for me and gave me that chance. I would see him at work on some of those days and he would always stop by and ask how I was doing and to check on me to see if I was doing okay. He was a nice man and I always have always hoped that somehow knew how highly I thought of him. We live and learn as we grow older
My heart goes out to my friends, Brian and Michael and the entire Deiters family. May you now find peace knowing that he is at peace with the lord in the kingdom of heaven. I know these times are tough and will continue to be difficult as you all deal with the grief over the loss of your beloved father. May God be with you and God Bless you.
Your friend,
Michael D. Skelton
