Gary Fredricks

I had the honor of working with Gary for 25 years on many fish issues at The Dalles and John Day Dams. Through our numerous debates, I always had the upmost respect for his wealth of knowledge and devotion to saving fish. Most of all I enjoyed swapping hunting stories (some were even true). He'll be missed.

I remember the last time I talked to Gary in 2017. We were both headed to work at a little after 5 am from Gateway TC about 3 months before his retirement. I told him that I heard he was retiring in July. I asked if he was having a party. He said no. I told him that I would buy him a beer to say Thank You if there was an informal bar get together. I am so saddened. Hard to express how sad. Gary was a fantastic guy and a fierce and effective advocate for natural resources and especially fish passage on the Columbia and Snake Rivers. He was a great person to work with and the bright light in my time representing Oregon on those fish passage issues. I love that his photo is of him and his cameras. He loved photography, but I never got to see any of his work. I hadn't seen or talked with Gary in seven years but often wondered about...
