Gary S. Giardina Corrections officer at Rahway prison, served in Army, USMC Gary S. Giardina, 61, of Rahway, N.J., passed away Friday, July 3, 2015, at his home. Visitation will be on Friday, July 10, 2015, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Growney Funeral Home, (www.growneyfuneral.com), 1070 North Broad St., Hillside, N.J. 07205. A Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. John The Apostle Church, Clark. N.J. Interment is at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, N.J. Born in Newark, N.J., Gary lived in Linden, N.J., for 25 years prior to moving to Rahway. He worked as a corrections officer at the Rahway State Prison for 25 years, retiring in 2011. Gary received an honorable discharge for serving both in the U.S. Army and the USMC during the Vietnam era. He was the devoted father of Joseph and Nicholas, and dear brother of Gail Petrone, Carol DeSena, Patricia Karcher, and Ann Giardina. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
