HELGESON, Gary - Of Flint, age 58, died Saturday, August 23, 2008 at his residence. Funeral service will be held 12:30PM Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Elder Les Long and Reverend Gene Rienwasser officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan. Visitation 2PM-4PM and 6PM-8PM Monday and 1PM-4PM and 6PM-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Gary was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on May 9, 1950, the son of the late Leroy and Edith Helgeson. Gary retired from the Army after 22 years of service. He worked as a cook for Old Country Buffet for 18 years. Gary loved being outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing and especially cooking and he loved caring for his two dogs. Surviving are wife Barbara; sons, Gary Helgeson of Flint, Steve (Julia) Helgeson of Swartz Creek; three sisters, Diane, Jeanie, Cynthia. He was preceded in death by his parents. I'll always remember having coffee with "Odd Seek" when we were young, and running across the grass barefoot at Judson Manor Apts to have coffee together as young married couples before Viet Nam...you being in my wedding, me being in yours...4th of July at your house when you talked me into wearing that stupid sombrero and going for the ride of my life in your wheel barrow waving flags...What a sight I must have been when I fell backwards and rode with my legs in the air!...How about those...
