Dear Opal and Children,
Stuart and I send our deepest sympathy in Melvin's passing. I know of no one who has had a greater influence on Anderson University than Melvin Hipps. Melvin was a true leader. Taking a good two-year junior college and turning it into a four-year institution was something that he did. He made us know what we didn't know; thus, some faculty went back to school for additional graduate courses, or some went on for doctorates. He also reminded us of what we did...

It was with deep sorrow that I learned of Dr.Hipps death.I worked at Anderson/University in the library under his tenure ther.He was a strong and dedicated educational leader..please know our prayers are with you,the family.
