Gary E. Jenkins

1967 - 2016

Gary Eugene Jenkins was born on July 20, 1967, and passed away July 17, 2016 just 3 days before his 49th birthday. He was born to John and Mary (Herman) Jenkins in Chandler, Arizona.

Gary and Carolyn crossed paths in SLC, UT but it wasn't until several years later that she knew he was her soul mate. He moved to Oregon and they were married March 20, 1999. Gary had a big heart and together they opened their home to a foster son, Kai, before they welcomed their daughter, Claire and shortly after their son Skai.

Gary was a talented artist. He drew, carved, and worked in wood. He and a partner opened and ran imagINwood Custom Cabinetry for nearly a decade. He most recently was an Account Manager for KRS Retail Solutions. Gary was a volunteer medic and bird handler for Cascade Raptor Center, and he enjoyed the friendships he developed there. He enjoyed the outdoors, and the family enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and kayaking together. Another favorite activity was smoking meat, and he enjoyed sharing that passion with others. But his true passion was family: his family of birth, the family he created, and his family of choice. He loved them with everything. Gary was a remarkable man who made this world a remarkable place in the short time he was here.

He leaves behind his wife, Carolyn; children, Claire and Skai; his parents, John & Mary Jenkins; brother, Doug Jenkins and sister, Lori Jenkins. We know he is at his favorite fishing hole with his dogs, Colby and Wasatch, just waiting for us to join him.

We ask family and friends to join us for an informal gathering on Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 2 to 5 at the Center for Spiritual Living. Bring your best Gary stories and photos. In lieu of flowers, you can make donations to Cascades Raptor Center at the following link:

Not sure what to say?

I was very sorry to see Gary's obituary in the paper and am sending condolences to all who are now grieving his loss. I didn't know him well but through ImagINwood he did some gorgeous cabinets, shelves and a window seat for us. We tried many times to find ImaginINwood again because the work was magnificent and our experience generally lovely. Reading about Gary's passions and loves was not a surprise from the man we knew so little and briefly.

We are so sorry for your loss. It was a pleasure knowing Gary, even if for a short time. May the memories of your love and laughter stay fresh in your hearts.

The pain, the grief, and the feeling of helplessness when we lose someone we love, can be unbearable. I hope the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing there is a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

Shocked and saddened to see this. Can't imagine what you are all going through. Sending our deepest condolences. Al & Tamara
