Read MoreI just learned that Gary passed away last fall. He was my baseball coach when I played on the Pintos in Pony League. He was very understanding that I had no fastball, no curveball and couldn't hit anything faster than 60 miles-per-hour. He was a really terrific coach and friend, and was a solid leader for the City of Birmingham. I'm sad that he is gone.

Gary was larger than life. I will remember him for his generousity. He was such a wonderful friend to my mother, Nancy LaBeau, especially in the last months of her life. He will be missed by so many. But he will live on in our hearts and memories in a very special way. Our prayers and deepest sympathy to his family.
