Gary was an instructor that appreciated the art of learning; not in an effort to pass some test, but rather to enrich each student. He was a professor. mentor, and friend. Think of you often Gary. Peace

I had the pleasure and good fortune to be a student at NEC and study biology with Gary. He was a great educator who challenged his students and made learning fun and exciting. God Bless you Gary and thank you for touching my life.

Melinda, I am at loss to here of the passing of my dear friend and mentor. What a tragic loss. As you may remember I met Gary while teaching in the summer school program at KU. Gary then asked me to come to NEC to teach with him in my life long dream to teach at a small liberal arts college. I remember your home and your children and Walter in Henniker. Those were a great treasured couple years of my life. I left to go serve full time with the National Guard as their Education Officer. ...

Melinda I was so very sorry to get the news of Garys passing. Although my connection with him was limited to his time as a book dealer while searching for Henry Shute books, Hopkinton Town reports, etc., I think of Gary as one of those guys who I wish Id known for my entire life. Ill miss him as will, Im sure, the many who came to know him during his life.

I attended NEC back in 1989 through 1993 where I was a Biology major under the guidance of Dr. McGrath. He was an excellent teacher that was always willing to help no matter what. I remember our counseling sessions since he was my advisor and he was always positive even when I had no idea what I wanted to do. He took us on so many adventures which were always fun and interesting. He was a great person and awesome teacher! My heart and sympathies go out to his family. May he rest in peace.

I'm so sorry for this huge loss. I know he had taken over the enormous task of taking care of Walter's bookstore.. both Gary and the bookstore are the heart of what made Henniker great. He was close friends with my father, Kevin Harvey. My brother and I were God friends with Sean and Caitlin when we were all young. I'm so sorry for the loss for his wife, children, and grandchildren.
