Gary W. McWilliams passed away Saturday August 15, 2015 at his home in Cameron. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday August 19, at the Mt Ayr Cemetery near Altamont. Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin where friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gary McWilliams Memorial Fund in care of McWilliams Funeral Home, Gallatin.
Gary was born July 27, 1959 the son of Leslie Vernon and Wilma (Looney) McWilliams in Maysville, MO. Gary and his family moved to Altamont and he attended school in Gallatin. He was united in marriage to Margie Phelps December 21, 1976 in Winston, MO. Gary started his working career at Rockwool Industries in Cameron as a machine operator where he was employed for several years. He later became an over the road truck driver for various companies, hauling all over the United States. He enjoyed trucking and was always ready for the next load. The last 12 years he was employed at Legacy Trucking Company where he was a yard hustler; due to failing health he retired earlier this year.
Gary loved every aspect of his farm, he was at his best whether he was caring for his Black Angus cows or putting up hay with his John Deere equipment. In his spare time he loved to garden, always making sure Margie has plenty of fresh vegetables for the table. In the early years Gary enjoyed hunting. He was an outdoorsman in every sense of the word. His family was his pride and joy and he was dedicated to providing for his family. Gary was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Rick McWilliams and his grandson, Damien Anders.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Margie of the home, son, John McWilliams and wife Hether of Excelsior Springs, daughter, Tabatha Shearer and husband Charlie of Catoosh, OK, Patricia McWilliams of the home, brothers, Herb McWilliams of Excelsior Springs, Vernon McWilliams of Cameron, George McWilliams and wife Angela of New Bloomfield, MO, sisters, Lisa Fuller of Thayer, and Jeannie Crosby and husband Mark of Fulton, MO. Gary has 12 grandchildren.
