I met Gary when he had Gary's Marathon staion at Pine and Pershing. I was in high school and a friend of mine worked nights for him. He was a kind man that knew times were tough for some of us boys and let us scrounge tires from his used pile for our cars. He helped us in many ways and taught us mechanics as we went along. A good man, a Christian man, and some one that stands out in my memories as a mentor. Rest in Peace Gary.

I first met Gary in the 1960s at the Phillips 66 station on Maple Ave. where we both worked. He was always willing to help me and liked joking around with me, lots of garage pranks. I have thought of him often. One of the best guys I ever worked with.
