Gary Joseph Schildt

I never got to personally meet Gary, but spent my whole life admiring him and his works. I am so very proud to be a part of his extended family.

He was my very, very talented cousin and I'm so very amazed at all the beautiful paintings and bronzes he made. R. I. P. Gary, you will missed.

He was a very kind man with many talents.

The Hockaday Museum of Art has the privilege of holding many of Gary's works in our permanent collection and on loan, several currently on view. We are deeply saddened to hear of Gary's passing, and cherish these artworks even more now. Below a photo of an exhibit from last spring that featured his sculptures and paintings.

Gary was certainly that self made artist. I went to school with him in Browning,Mont ( blackfeet/Pikuni ) reserved and graduated with him from High schoo. he certaily was blessed with art. RUP Gary

He was a former classmate and I had contacts over the years. I always knew he was talented and seen his art in person at locations. He was one of a few western artists who will be remembered in history.

His talent as an Artist was Genius. His style was remarkable and although similar in some ways to many of the great western artists of the past, his style was quite unique.
