Gary Smith

Gary was a true gentleman and a friend for many years. We paddled white water together, volunteered to work at the 1989 Whitewater Canoe and Kayak Wildwater/Downriver World Championships on the Savage River in Garrett County, Maryland and had several motorcycle trips together including a six week trip from New Mexico to the Canadian Rockies. To quote a line from the end of the movie True Grit, "We had some lively times".

I knew Gary when he lived nearby my family when I was growing up and he was raising Elizabeth. He had asked me to pick up Elizabeth from school and take her to his apartment and stay with her until he got home from work. I was in high school, and Elizabeth was in first grade. He was one of the nicest people I have ever known. My condolences to his family.

I worked at IBM Harrisburg in the very early 70s...I was in my very early 20s....i have pleasant memories watching Gary from a second floor window getting out of his Porsche and walking across the parking lot brief case in hand...he was so tall and handsome, a sharp dresser and the perfect gentleman
