SOUTH BEND - Mr. Gatson Mincy, 87, of South Bend, IN, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, departed this life on Monday, May 31st, at home surrounded by family. Gatson was born in Statesboro, GA, on August 15, 1922, to the union of the late Rueben Mincy and Carrie Horton. He moved to South Bend, IN, in 1949. He met the love of his life and he later married Ruth Mae Parker on October 31, 1955. Gatson retired as a laborer from Christman Construction Co. after 35 years of dedicated service. Gatson, better known as "Mr. Man," loved gardening, fishing, hunting, working on cars, and spending time with his family and friends telling Georgia stories. In addition to his beloved wife, Ruth Mincy of 55 years, Gatson leaves to forever cherish his memory his children, Theresa Patricia Ann Blackwell, Debbie Lee (Jerome) Clark, Natalie Maria (Randall) Lott, Ida Ruth (Glenn) Williams of South Bend, IN, Peggy Lynn (Michael) Kendall of Columbus, OH, Berry Tyron (Jamie) Mincy of San Antonio, TX, and Carol Lynette (Michael) Rhodes of Indianapolis, IN. His loving grandchildren, Fred Thompson, Angela (Joe) Jackson, April (Oliver) Jackson, Danielle Walker, James Vann-Mincy, Carla (Willie) Evins, Michelle Walker, Tiffaney Clark, Travis Hines, Mercedes Rhodes, Isaac Kendall, Isiah Kendall, Rachel Lott, Michael Rhodes, Krystina Lott, Jordan Mincy, Kai Mincy, Brandon Lott and Miles Rhodes; and 16 great-grandchildren. Gatson is also survived by his brother, Sewonie (Mamie) Mincy; sister, Ida Wigfall of South Bend, IN, Catherine Edinfield of Metter, GA; and his sisters-in-law, Pearl Mincy, Sue Bird and Eddie Mae Byrd. He also leaves to cherish a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Gatson was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Rufinis, Silas, Riley, Henry, Gary Martin; and sisters, Ruby and Sally; daughter, Shirley Thompson; and grandson, Elmer Thompson. Gatson Mincy was a true inspiration to all who knew and loved him. He will be forever missed. The family sends a special thank you to the Hospice Nurses and Home Health Care Aides: Rita, Nicole and Maria. Funeral services will be held in the Clark O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincoln Way West, on Friday, June 4th; visitation at 11:00 a.m. and services at noon. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home.
