Gavin Gladding was a father, husband, brother, son, teacher, mentor, coach, and a best friend to everyone he came into contact with. Gavin embraced life. Not a moment went by that he wasn't smiling, laughing, or looking for opportunities to share his love of nature and education with his family,...

Not sure what to say?

I was shocked and saddened to hear of this tragedy. I worked with Gavin at the Parkway for several years. We spent many hours together hauling & paddling canoes. I will never forget him and am a better person for having known such a exceptional human being.

Today they dedicated a section of Friant Road to him. I am grateful that he is being remembered, officially. I thought I should also officially pay my respects.

I will always remember Gavin with a smile on his face,...

I am so shocked and deeply saddened by learning of Mr. Gladding's passing from watching the news tonight. He was my 7th grade science teacher at Alta Sierra, a time that almost every girl and boy is feeling uncomfortable, depressed, confused, and scared of the changing times of a new school, friends, societal expectations, general teen awkwardness, etc. When us students walked into his class and sat down we could all take a breath finally and just relax, because we knew Mr. Gladding would...

I am dumbstruck - I only learned today of Gavin's death. I worked closely with Gavin at the Blue Ridge Outdoor Education Center in Toccoa, GA. I still think of him often, for his humor, ability to connect with kids of all ages, Peace Corps stories, great meals together, paddling on the Chattooga River...so much. My heart goes out to Susan and the kids. Paddle on, brother!

Gavin and I went to UCSB and were fraternity officers together in Sigma Chi. While he was the president of the fraternity I was the vice president. He was always level headed and fair and a man of character. He offered genuine and steady leadership within the fraternity environment which can be quite chaotic. I am very saddened to hear the news of his passing but proud to know that he and I shared a similar path as professional educators. Blessings to Gavin on the next stage of his...

My Deepest Sympathy, sounded like an extraordinary man, father, person. My heart goes out to this wife and children. Wow, he passed on the same date (9-16-08) as my Kim. All My best!

I was Gavin's soccer coach at Forkner for the under 12 "A" team and though he was a youth at the time he was solid as a rock when leading by example on and off the field. A quiet kid who was respected by his team for the way he played the game but moreover, the way he treated his teammates with respect during a practice or game. He had a great left foot and played the halfback position next to Mark Dragoo on the field like brothers. He was one of those kids that was as seen more than heard...

Gavin and I went to Forkner all the way the through UCSB together. Pretty sure only 2 or 3 of us stayed together that whole time. Last I saw him was around UCSB graduation (1997) and he was talking abiut the peace corps. I'll remember always seeing Him on UCSB campus that last time. My old friend Gavin. Wish I knew his family and kept in better touch.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Gavin. From what I'm reading here and in the news, he made an extremely positive impact in many peoples lives and will be missed tremendously. This may seem very random, which is actually how I came across this terrible news; I see it's been mentioned that Gavin moved to Fresno in 1983? Was it by any chance from Bexley Ohio? I'm asking because I was friends with a Gavin Gladding right around that time, (1982-83) however he moved away and we...
