Gavin Scott Williamson, born May 15 1999, passed away on May 22 2024.
Beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin and nephew. Born in Norwich, CT- Gavin is survived by his father Dan Williamson, his mother and stepfather Judy and Todd Douton, his sister Sydney Williamson, his brothers Todd Miller Jr and Devin Douton, his grandparents George and Virginia Williamson; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his grandparents Carl and Verona Green. Gavin is a graduate of Ledyard High School, Class of 2017. Once a Colonel, Always a Colonel
Gavin proudly served in the United States Navy as a Fighting Seabee. An excerpt from Capt Constance Solina, Commanding Officer Naval Construction Group Two based in Gulfport, MS-
“Construction Mechanic Second Class Petty Officer (CM2) Gavin Scott Williamson enlisted in the Navy on 20 July 2017. His tours include Boot Camp Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois, Construction Mechanic “A” school at Naval Construction Training Command (NCTC) Port Hueneme, California, Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron (HM) 15 in Norfolk, Virginia, and Naval Construction Group TWO in Gulfport, Mississippi. Gavin completed a deployment with HM-15 from December 2019 to March 2020.
Gavin was a member of NCG 2 since October 2022 and re-enlisted in December 2022. He was an experienced and devoted technician with a vast knowledge who continuously demonstrated superb mechanical knowledge with an ability to excel at any task. His superiors, peers and subordinates alike knew him for his dedication to the Navy Seabees, his excellent work ethic, and his phenomenal ability to diagnose and repair equipment ensuring the mission could succeed. He routinely sought out additional responsibilities and was always trying to grow his technical and professional knowledge. CM2 Williamson made an overtly positive impact within the NCG 2 Transportation Division by performing maintenance and repairs on 235 units of Civil Engineer Support Equipment, valued at $84M, utilized around the world in support of his beloved Seabees and my nine subordinate units. His efforts directly supported the readiness and success of the Atlantic Seabees.
Gavin was well known amongst his friends and family for his love of the Seabees and the Navy. He knew from the young age of 12 years old that he wanted to be a proud member of the Fighting Seabees. In his off duty time, he enjoyed hanging out with his friends, playing video games, and spending time with his two dogs, Sadie and Triton.
Gavin was an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and his decorations included Navy Achievement Medal (NAM), two Battle “E”s with HM-15, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Marksman, and two Good Conduct Medals.”
Gavin was a quirky, awkward young man growing up. A big ole goofy grin on his face practically every waking moment. Thankfully, that big ole goofy grin stayed as he grew to manhood. At times, he was quite the handful; but what kid isn’t when they’re trying to find their way. A lover of the woods, Gavin was more often than not found ripping the trails on his mountain bike, camping, hiking and fishing. In high school, Gavin found his second passion in wrestling. His drive and determination to learn, compete and win at the highest levels, was made evident in his rapid and head turning success. He was very loyal, sometimes to a fault; and highly driven when it was time to accomplish his goals. Once his mind was set, nothing could derail him. When he loved, he loved fiercely with every ounce of his being in his own way. His manner of loving didn’t always make sense at first, but once the layers were peeled back; it clicked and you knew.
Gavin was a man of humility and deep appreciation. He was not of the ilk to extend his hand out to anyone in an effort to take from them. Rather, his hand was extended out to give, to offer aid, comfort, safety and love.
He loved. He is loved. He is missed. But moreover, he will be remembered, honored and celebrated for having been.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 5th at 11 o’clock at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. Interment with full military honors will be in Colonel Ledyard Cemetery.

On a personal note, I write to the Williamson family to assure them their loved one, Gavin, will always be remembered, respected and revered. My husband was Navy, my brother flew Navy, my dad Coast Guard. We are all true New Englanders and have the love of the sea.
At this very difficult time, the Wallingford VCH (Veterans Coffee House) would like to honor the loss of Gavin Williamson as a fallen brother. Our military Veterans send out their heartfelt condolences to the Williamson...
