Gaylord was my track and cross country coach at DVC in 1958-1960. He knew little about long distance running, but the 2 of us managed to design a cross county course so challenging that the Junior College Northern finals were held there the next year (1960). Coach Bryan was the most competitive person I have ever met. He hated to lose at anything, thing, even spades or hearts card games we use to play on the bus going to meets

Coach Bryan was my track, cross country coach at Diablo Valley College in 1957-1959. I was his #1 runner and he even let me construct our new cross country course. With his help we made a course so good that the N. California finals were held on it the next year. I almost won the race, but ran out of gas in the last few yards and Coach kidded about having to build a better course next year.
