Not sure what to say?

I began my internship at Jefferson Hospital and Hillman Clinics (soon to become UAB) in 1970.I grew up in a town of 1200 souls and felt I had moved to Mount Olympus.I believed Dr Ball to be the best professor in the Department of Medicine.I remember a Rheumatology Conference at Ann Jordan Farm near Montgomery and standing in the Romeo and Juliet balcony of his home.He influenced the lives and practice of thousands of young physicians.Sir William Osler chose as his epitaph "He taught medical...

He was always very kind to me and my wife. May he rest in peace Dr Juan Joy Dr Ada Lopez Mendez

As a new rheumatologist in Birmingham, Dr Gene Ball was very kind and welcoming. He invited me to give a talk at Rheumatology Grand Rounds at UAB. He used to come to our Alabama Society for the Rheumatic Diseases meetings at local restaurants and we often asked him to pick the wines. We all enjoyed his wit and wisdom. My father-in-law was Associate Dean of the UAB Dental School and would attend medicine grand rounds. He told me he used to sit with Gene at these meetings. Both started out...

We the Ball_Hill family we do convey our deepest heartfelt sympathy

Truly sorry, Sara Jane. - Kenner

Thank you for sharing about his life. As an Intern at UAB, Gene was my first attending physician on my first day, June 24th, 1982. He was very passionate about giving patient focused care and always took the time to share precious stories with his patients. He was one of my key role models throughout my academic career at UAB. His legacy will live on at UAB. He mentored so many leaders and physicians. Sue Harding, MD. Professor Emeritus UAB.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Ball family and friends in this time of grief. Sorry for your loss. May the memories shared help you cope through this difficult time.

Dear Sarah Jane: As you may recall, Gene and I traveled to Egypt together in the 1990s. I met Gene through a mutual friend, Dr. Chris Truss. We had a wonderful time in Egypt and I thoroughly enjoyed his company. In Cairo, we met a friend of Gene's (who was also a doctor) who acted as our guide in the city. I was finally able to meet you when I was visiting Chris and Lois in Birmingham in 2016 and had dinner with you and Gene at The Club and we reminisced about our trip to Egypt. It was a...

Although I knew Dr. Ball for a short amount of time, it was a pleasure to get to know him and bond with him through his hospital stay.
