Gene (Chimers) Hawley Cabot, 84, of Manistee, MI passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at his home with his spouse by his side.


He was born to Harry and Grace (Hawley) Cabot on August 22, 1940.  Gene was one of six children.  He graduated from Manistee High School and retired from Martin Marietta of Manistee.  In 1962, he and Sandra Tremblay were the first couple to be married at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Shrine (now the Wagoner Senior Center in Manistee).


Gene is survived by his wife, three sons, Rick (Mary), Keith (Cassie) and Brian (Stephanie); Two brothers, David (Kathe) and Ken (Wanell) all of Manistee.  He was preceded in death by his parents; Two brothers, Lee and Jerry Cabot; His sister, Dawn Kramer, sister-in-law, Sharon Rasmussen of Greenwood, AR.


Gene leaves behind eight grandchildren, Kari (Dan) Hackman, Krista (Tyler) Aultman, Cory Cabot, Kaylyn (David) Kolesar, Levi and Raymond Lanning, Hailey and Hannah Cabot; Nine great-grandchildren; A niece and nephew in Arkansas and their extended families.


Gene loved and chose to live and remain in Michigan for its great outdoor beauty and hunting and fishing opportunities.


Gene was a faithful communicant of Divine Mercy Parish of Manistee.


Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 26, 2025 with Rev. James Bearss celebrant.  The family will be at the church from 10:00 AM to receive friends until the Mass begins.  Burial will take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery immediately following the funeral Mass.


The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is overseeing funeral arrangements.
