Not sure what to say?

I met Coach Evans when I was a teenager shooting hoops at the Kline Center. The first shot he ever saw me take hit nothing therefore earning me the nickname "Airball." He took the time to come down and give me pointers. He taught me more on those occasions than any other coach did ever! He was a very caring individual. He taught me that there was so much more to basketball than just scoring. I owe a lot to Coach Evans, and I want everyone to know that not only was he my mentor, he was...

To the Evans Family,
All of us have a very few people in our lives who made a difference for us. Coach Evans most definitely is on the short list of those who made a difference for me. I arrived in Carlisle in 1969 as a gangly junior from Mississippi who didn't know anyone, and who got a late start in basketball that season because I was on the football team. I remember coming to the first couple of basketball practices I felt slow and clumsy and really doubted if I could even make...

To Dot and the entire Evans family, my most heart-felt condolences in your loss. Gene Evans was of major importance to me as my football coach and teacher at Carlisle High School. As an Army brat from Carlisle Barracks, I was in many ways molded by my early association with Gene in 1951 and 1952, and I will never forget him. He was my mentor and example in so many ways. He had extraordinary impact on me, and I can only imagine the impact he had on you. God bless Gene and all of you, and...

To the Evans family, I am so sorry to hear of Gene's passing. He was the best coach I ever had in high school & at the University level. He gave me a chance and tought me not only in the class room and the athletic field's but also latter in life when I visited him at his home. I will be forever grateful. To my high school best friend, Lisa & Family,
I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. He was a good man and touched so many of us in so many different ways. To me, he was the dad of one of my best friends & basketball teammate. I hung out at your house and Mom & Dad were there watching on and outside of your home, he watched us as we played basketball and Mom Dot too. She watched us in the halls of the high school as well. I have great respect for Mom & Dad Evans and my thoughts are with...

To the Evans Family - my sincere condolences. Although you don't know me, I'm from Plymouth, PHS 1961. My parents Shel and Betty Thomas were close friends with Ben James and family and my brother graduated from Dickinson in 1962. Yearly, when my parents got togetner with the Ben and his wife, Gene's name would always come up. Moreover, as a teacher and coach myself, Gene's name would pop up locally in the coaching circles. Although I was only in his company a few times, it was always a...

It is with great sadness that I learned
of Gene's passing. He helped me with
teaching in mathematics and basketball.
He was the most humble man that I knew,
and yet he was the wisest. My sincere
symphany to the Evans family.
