Read MoreGene was father of my best friend Chris Ott, growing up in Las Cruces. One 4th of July at the Cates House we set off fireworks in the backyard while the parents socialized. One went right under Gene's chair and blew up. He emerged from the smoke laughing the happiest laugh. Always loved the Great One.
