(Kellogg) Sampson. He grew up in Northern California and attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and a Minor in History. Gene later received a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Brigham Young. He was a respected reference librarian at the Mansfield Richland County Public Library where he was employed for 17 years. Gene met his wife, Cathie Brooks while attending Brigham Young University and they were married on March 14, 1971. Not sure what to say?

Dear Cathie,

We learned from Priscilla Walker that Gene had passed away. Our prayers are with you. We think of Gene and you often with warm memories of times in Mansfield. We remember Gene as very kind and spritual, as well as helpful. May God be with you at this time and your testimony be strengthened in the Plan of Salvation. We love you.

Cathie
We often talk about your family and wonder how you are doing. I am very sorry to hear about Gene's death, and pray that you are all right. He is probably in heaven designing a world with more outdoor activities to enjoy for all of us. I love you dearly, and you are in my prayers, Alice.

Sorry to hear about Gene, I want to tell you how much you both mean to me.

Dearest Cathie,
I will never forget Gene and Summer showing up in the middle of the night to help us unpack our truck the night we arrived in Mansfield, and then you had us all over for Sunday dinner the next day. What good friends you have been to us!

As you pass through this time of grieving, I invite you to ponder the later verses of "How Firm a Foundation." Know that the grief will not end, but that God will teach you how to swim in "deep waters." I love you.

Two words immediately come to mind when I think of Gene, helpful and kind. I remember his smile and laugh and his willingness to always give a hand or advice as needed in such a gentle and understanding way that it was received as it was given, with love and concern unfeigned. He will not just be missed but also remembered, and I look forward to the day when we can once again work together, and I can enjoy his presence and smile. It is comforting to know that he is now looking out for the...

When I think of Gene, I think of him mostly at the library. He had the nicest smile and was very helpful when asked for help. I remember him in church with his family also. May God Bless You Gene Sampson for the great gift we had of your presence. And God Bless you Cathy for your caring in our Relief Society. (I still remember your tears when too few sisters showed up for Homemaking.. they sure showed up after that!.. because we care about you.) How fortunate you two were to be one in...

Gene was a great man he was always there when there was a need. I remember when I first met him, he shook my hand and I new I was in the presence of a very spiritual man. We will miss him. Cathy we miss you not being here in Mansfield. Hope to see you soon. We all love you.

I will always remember the special bond me and Brother Sampson had............

How, during my stay at the hospital in 1997, I was told he was there as often as he could, whether I was conscious or not. I enjoyed his company during that rough time for me. I always looked forward to his visits.

During my youth, he seemed to always be one I could go to for guidance as he was a teacher of mine at church. We did fast offerings for quite some time together, just me and...
