With family by his side, Gene went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 11:45 am. He was born on February 23, 1939, to Leo and Loretta (Higgins) Schany on the family farm in Graettinger, Iowa. On September 17, 1966, Gene was united in marriage to Janice Kooker in Emmetsburg, Iowa, and relocated to Crystal, MN where they have resided ever since. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and also enjoyed spending time on the open road, moving trucks across the country. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers John "Mickey," Bill Sr., Tom and Robert; sisters Alice, Joan Diffey, Mary Nitchals, Ruth Johnson and one infant sister. Gene is survived by his loving wife, Janice; son Jeffrey (Alanna) Schany and their children Annika, Jaelyn and Ryker of Woodbury, MN; daughter Nicole (Erik) Miller and their children Hannah, Ella and Ava of St. Michael, MN; brothers Richard and Danny (Elouise); sisters Helen Schany, Pauline Christensen, and Irene Braunger.

Not sure what to say?

Just checked this obits page--still cannot believe Gene is gone..however this obits page has stirred up some of his old high school friends, which does not surprise me as he, Gene, was one of a kind, funny, generous, concerned about everyone. Miss him a lot,,,,RIP!!

Gene and I went to the same school and rode the bus everyday. We lived about 1/2 mile from him, his father and my father were good friends and neighbors helping one another with their farms. Regretfully, I have not seen him for several years, but when we were young we saw each other most everyday. To his wife and family, I am very sorry for your loss.

Gene and I shared the same class first grad into high school. We rode horses together and other entertainment. He always wanted to follow big brother, Bill, and drive heavy equipment. He was good at it. Bob
