Not sure what to say?

No one fought harder than you, Gene. And even though the battles were not always won and you sometimes did not get the respect you deserved, know that there are thousands of us who learned from your example. May you rest in peace knowing you gave your best.

It is September 19, 2025, and today I have just learned of your passing, you were the hardest math teacher in all of Lincoln West, I hated going into your class because I hated math since I was brought up to believe that I was too dumb to learn it. You were the only teacher to believe in me and I learned Algebra because of you. Your class was very hippie inspired with pink cellophane on the windows and it smelled like incense. I remember you coming to teach us even when you were sick. Thank...

What can I say about Mr. Tracy? He was an excellent teacher, a kind leader, and clearly a troublemaker. But he made the kind of trouble that helps students like me that found refuge in our school. I have many great memories of him and his long hair and rock n roll t-shirts. One being the time he took money out of his own pocket to make sure his students had scientific calculators for class. Another would be the few times he would come to class on Monday morning and nonchalantly tell us...

I only wish I had the chance to tell you in person. You touched my heart so much with our regular meetings where I would sit at the desk in class..and you would sit at your desk. You explained to me the importance or standing up and fighting when no one else would. You knew that I had so much happening in my little heart but you slowly and systematically mentored, showed me concern with boundaries and expressed to me the importance of speaking out against injustice. I often wondered why...

I will miss Uncle Gene. I always enjoyed seeing him. He was a free spirit who cared. His activism was inspiring. He also showed he cared for family. He randomly let me know he was thinking about me in sweet ways. I feel like the people of the world, and more specifically Cleveland, lost an important fighter. I wish his time was not cut short and that I´d see him at our next family event shucking corn and mashing potatoes. I love you, Uncle Gene.

Like countless others, I am saddened by the loss of Gene in this world. He always fought for his students, other educators, and quite frankly... anyone he met that needed it. The world has lost a shining light, but he will live on in the COUNTLESS lives he has touched. To his family, I hope with time your hearts don't hurt as badly (I know this is a difficult feat) and that you can rejoice in the fond memories you have of him.

Geno, sad to hear. Such great times at PSH and CSU. Congratulations on a great life. Rest well. Ken and Jo Ann Nemec Queen Creek AZ.

I worked with Gene not only as a teacher but with our Union too. He only had the best for the students and education at CMSD. I will miss him.

Your activism and dedication to students and teachers made you special. May your memory be eternal.
