He enjoyed playing tennis for many years, carving animals out of walnut wood, attending the Richmond Symphony, and traveling in Europe, Japan and Alaska. In recent years, he took part in the Parkinson's exercise class at the John Rolfe YMCA, where the camaraderie was as important to him as the excellent instruction. Tom's family are thankful for the compassion and care of their church family, childhood friends and new-found friends, Senior Solutions, Spring Arbor of Salisbury, and Horizon's Hospice. A memorial service will take place at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church at 1101 Forest Ave. at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 10. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Matthew's Endowment Fund or to the Parkinson's & Movement Disorder Center at P.O. Box 980539, Richmond, Va. 23298.
