Geneva and I stayed in contact by phone and cards even after my wife Lois and I moved to Florida in 1998. We would talk several times a year and she would keep me apprised of what was going on with my friends there in GR.
I taught at Riverside Jr from 1963-1980 and Geneva was our efficient secretary. Needless to say, the school, as we knew it, could not have run without her. The principals depended heavily upon her knowledge.
At Grand Rapids Community College I saw Geneva...

Geneva was my “mother”. I learned in the ‘80's that it was she who took care of me as an infant until I was 13 months old when I was placed in a foster home.
I have vague memories of visiting your family in Grand Rapids with, unknown to me at that young age, my birth mother. I remember twin girls and a boy and I was eager for them to come home after school and play with me. Once, when Geneva got a new appliance delivered, we all played in its huge cardboard packing box. I remember...

Diane - You have our sincere sympathy in the passing of your mother. I don't know if she ever told you that I visited with her a few times at Railside because Ken's mom was there and passed away at the age of 99. You are in our prayers at this time.

We were the beneficiary of her love of young children, knitting and her marvelous caring heart. She watched all three of our children from the time they were newborns, and when we tried to pay her, all she would say is "I should pay you". Our kids could not wait to go to Geneva's. We lived close by her in Caledonia, and loved to pick her to go watch a "ball game" when one of our boys was playing. She has stored up many treasures in heaven, and we are joyful she now has gone to be with God....

My sympathy is extended to the entire family of Geneva. She was such an inspiration to so many folks as she sat at that window at at the college selling parking tokens,l.
She always had a smile and a note of inerest for everyone. What a person! Geneva has left a mark at the college and we all will miss her,Milly Weeber,

When I taught evening classes as a new adjunct faculty member at GRJC in the 1980s, I looked forward to Geneva's warm and encouraging smile. I will always remember her kindness to me. Mary Bayer

Miss Geneva was a well-respected coworker and friend. I never heard her say an unkind word to or about anyone. She was always happy to serve others. She accepted the Salute to Women award with humility and grace. It was bestowed upon her in her 90th year and in the College's 90 th year as well. What an honor to have known Geneva.

How many times I got to the Main Building for a scheduled night class so I could spend a couple of minutes with Geneva. She could brighten anybody's day!
May her memory be eternal.
