Mrs. Geneva Kirby Meeks, 92 of Lake City died Saturday afternoon, February 10, 2007. A native and lifelong resident of Columbia County, Mrs. Meeks was a daughter to the late Edgar and Maude Carpenter Kirby. She attended the Columbia City School and later finished her education at the Columbia County High School in Lake City. Mrs. Meeks was well known for her “Aunt Neve Congo Squares” and her chocolate cakes. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, quilting and listening to her late husband Chubby Wise play the Fiddle. Mrs. Meeks was a charter member of Athens Baptist Church in Columbia City. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Thomas Lawson Meeks, 1992 and Robert “Chubby” Wise in 1996 and her daughter, Marvalene Nelson in 1981.

Mrs. Meeks is survived by four grandchildren, Robert Nelson (Linda) Hoboken, GA, Rebecca Mangrum, Neva Skaggs (Teddie) and Donna Cothran (Bo) all of Lake City, four step children, Leon Meeks, George Meeks, Christine Lee (Walter), Joy Langston (Art) and four step grandchildren, Shirley Jenkins (TD), Alvin Meeks (Barbara), Gary Meeks (Pat) all of Lake City and Charlotte Warren (Chris), Tallahassee. Twenty seven great grandchildren and twenty great great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Meeks will be conducted on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Athens Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
