Mrs. Geneva Walton Sykes, age 91, of Lumberton, NC, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Embrace Hospice House in Myrtle Beach, SC. She was born in Columbus County, NC on September 4, 1929 to the late Robert Oscar Walton and the late Martha Jane Phillips Walton.


Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Elbert C. Sykes; three brothers: Carl Walton, Robert Walton, and Ralph Walton; and four sisters: Emma McPherson, Edith Fowler, Bertha McVickers, and Cornelia Walton.


She is survived by her son, Ronald Sykes of Loris, SC; three daughters: Brenda Sykes Brown of Wilmington, NC, Shirley Sykes Horne of Myrtle Beach, SC and Tammy Sykes Freeman (Clay) of Lumberton, NC; five grandchildren: Kent Anderson (Kirsten) of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, Rusty Horne (Judi) of Chadbourn, NC, Jeff Horne of Boulder, CO, Eric Brown of Wilmington, NC, and Macy Freeman of Lumberton, NC; and two great-grandchildren, Kaylyn Rae Horne of N. Myrtle Beach, SC and Viktoria Horne of Boulder, CO.


A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton, NC with Rev. Tony Ward officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the graveside.
