Geno L. Neri--82, A resident of Arlington since 1957, who was born and raised in the Kendall Square section of Cambridge, passed away peacefully July 14, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with Heart disease and Parkinson's Disease.
Geno was a devoted and beloved son of the late Maria (Praconi) and Ercole Neri and the loving brother of the late Frank Neri, his late wife Lillian, the late Armand Neri and his surviving wife Dorothy of Woburn. He was the dearest uncle of Karen Pare and her husband Donald of Centerville, Steven Neri and his wife Nancy (Doherty) of Andover, Melissa Hegarty and her husband Sean of Bedford, Janlyn Neri of CT, David Neri and his wife Joanne of VA, Lorraine Tierney and her husband Mark of CT. He was also the great-uncle of Matthew Pare of Norwell, David Pare of Winchester, Caitlin Neri Espinola, Mairen Marshall, Brent Neri all of Andover, Brad, William and Joseph Hegarty all of Bedford, Michael Neri of MD and Daniel Neri, of VA, Michelle Neri Lorette of CT and the late Jennifer Neri Lorette. Geno was also the great-grand uncle of Patrick Marshall, Noah, Charlie, Evan and Cole Pare and is also survived by the extended Neri and Praconi families of Italy.
Geno was a graduate of Rindge Technical High School, Cass of 1948, where he excelled in the classroom as well as on the basketball court becoming the captain of the school team his senior year. He continued his academic career at Northeastern University. Geno was a true scholar who loved reading and learning and this is where his athletic ability in basketball earned him membership as an All New England Team Member.
Before his retirement Geno had a long and very successful career as a well respected Stock Broker for UBS Financial Service of Boston He also served his country in the US Army during the Korean War Era. He loved his family and friends tending to his magnificent garden, enjoying great Italian cuisine and traveling. He was also a late member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of MA and The Dante Club.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Calling Hours at the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) in Somerville on Thursday, July 18, 2013, from 4-8 p.m. A Funeral Home Service will be held Friday morning, July 19, at 11:00 a.m. followed by Interment with Military Honors at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Arlington.
