George Mitchell Allen, 68, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY. George was born on November 20, 1953 in Smiths Grove, KY to the late Thomas D. (Buster) Allen, Sr. and the late Helen Houchins Allen. He was also preceded in death by his brother Larry D. Allen.
He professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Pleasant View Baptist Church, where he served faithfully. He also served as an Elder at Hillvue Heights Church until his health no longer allowed him to do so.
George was known for his hard work, dedication, and servant heart. In recent years, he helped organize the Smiths Grove Food Ministry, delivering meals to senior citizens and many others in need.
He began mowing yards as a sixth grader which led to the cultivation of a very successful lawn service. His customers knew him to be a man of honor, always punctual, and dedicated to customer satisfaction. At the onset of his illness, he ended his working career at Hill’s Pet Nutrition.
In 2005, George received a second chance at life through the gift of donation that allowed him to have a bilateral lung transplant at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY. He faced many health obstacles, but persevered with the love, dedication, and selfless service of his wife of 42 years, Eleanor.
Post-transplant, he became an enthusiastic car collector, attending and participating in many car shows all around the area. He also became an avid baker, distributing his baked goods to his former lawn care customers and his many healthcare providers.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Eleanor Ruth Wardlow Allen; four sisters, Ruby Woods (Gene), Betty Sue Britt (Bennie), Len Harriford (Terry), and Emma Glover (Kenneth); one ,brother, Thomas Douglas Allen, Jr.; One sister-in-law, Sandra Allen; several aunts and uncles and a host of nieces and nephews. A very special friend Shelly Towe.

I only heard today of the passing of such a Spirit driven man of God. George Mitchell was an example to me of what a Christian heart should be. I had a great love for the entire family. May God touch each of you at this time with His merciful finger of love.

Even though George's health turned on him, that didn't stop him from being kind and generous to others. My prayers to Eleanor and all his family.
