George was my friend and neighbor on Colonels Island in coastal southeast Georgia. He taught me more than words can express through his wonderful cooking and discussions at each meal which were often attended by world renown academic scholars who ate his delicious pasta puttanesca in their bare feet and scraggly short pants and T-shirt which were the preferred attire to enjoy his beloved coastal island lifestyle. My wife and I and our children truly loved him and will NEVER forget him.

George was one of the bright lights in Boulder in the 1960s. What a charmer he was. I had met George through his old friend, and mine, Jerry Goebel, who left us many years ago. We stayed in touch over the years, most recently last year. I was so looking forward to seeing George in Atlanta this coming September.... His star will continue to shine.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
