P.G. Thomasson Funeral Services - Virginia Beach Obituary

George Washington Blount passed away on December 27, 2020 in his home in Norfolk, Virginia being cared for by his faithful mate. He was born in Edenton, North Carolina on August 25, 1924. His parents were the late Leander Blount and Lucille Williams Blount. He is predeceased by his siblings: Willie Lee, Alonzo, Ella, and Lucille. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Thelma Blount, son, Elston Lee Blount and his wife Patricia of Virginia Beach, Virginia and daughter, June Lorraine Blount of Virginia Beach, Virginia. His grandchildren: Michelle Giles and husband Richard of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Christina Augustus and husband Stewart of Newport News, Virginia. His great grandchildren: Richelle Giles, Sierra Giles, J’uan Giles and Aliyah Wright, and a host of nieces and nephews. Also, his sister-in-law Emma Blount of Brooklyn New York, Dorothy Blount of Edenton, North Carolina and two special daughters Lisa Moore and Deborah Kittrell of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
After graduating from Edenton High School where he was the football team’s quarterback he went into the military. He was sent to school in Detroit, Michigan for special training by the military. After leaving the military he and a friend built a successful wood and delivery business in Edenton. Leaving Edenton, he worked at the US Naval Base until 1961. From 1961 until his retirement at age 84 he worked in the clothing business. That accounts for him being a well-dressed man.
George was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on September 17, 1949. He served faithfully in various assignments: Accounts Servant, Assistant Congregation Servant, Congregation Servant, Presiding Overseer, Coordinator of the Body of Elders, Cafeteria Servant, Assistant Assembly Overseer and Assembly Overseer. His love was the congregation and the ministry which he had an active share even in his later years and as his health declined.
George loved traveling and gardening; in fact, he had a garden until about a month ago.

Not sure what to say?

Sister Blount, Elston & June. I am deeply sorry for your loss. Brother Blount left an impression on everyone that had the pleasure of meeting him. I have very fond memories of being in his presence. He don’t ever recall seeing him without a big smile. I was privileged to have known such a spiritual man. We all look forward to seeing him soon.

Elston and June, you have my sincerest condolences in the loss of your father.

My spiritual father will certainly be missed. He was very special to me and always encouraging. He was always so confident and really shepherded the congregation with the deepest respect from others. It was always my pleasure to be there for him and his wife. He always said he wanted to live to be 100. You almost made it! its comforting to know we have the hope of Jehovah's New World when we ALL will be able to live forever. My sincerest condolences for our loss!
