Wilson Funeral Home - Tampa Obituary

A celebration of life service for Mr. George Butler, Sr. who passed on January 30, 2017 will be held on Saturday February 11, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Family Church, 8610 Temple Terrace Highway, Temple Terrace, Florida with Pastor Roy Taylor, Officiating.   Cremation will follow.  
                                                       
George was preceded in death by his parents, Moses Butler, Sr. and Marietta Smith Butler; sons, Johnny Butler, George Butler, Jr. and James Anthony; brother, Moses Butler, Jr.


He leaves to cherish beautiful memories of him with his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Catherine Butler; children, Alexander Butler, Sr. (Erica) of Enterprise, AL, Catheria Diane Butler, Tampa, FL, Lewis Butler, Edward Butler, Linda Butler, St. Petersburg, FL, Sergio, Pedro and Edwin Archilla, Tampa, FL; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Harper, Atlanta, GA, Arssie Williams, St. Petersburg, FL; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Guilford, Tampa, FL, Ann Chapman, Enterprise, AL and Patricia Griffin, Dothan, AL; god daughter, Lisa Griffin Davis; god son, Eddie Jackson; special friends, John Gala, Thomas and Willie M. Whitehurst and other relatives and friends.


      
Mr. George Butler, Sr. affectionately known as “Boggie” and “Papa” was born on October 22, 1934 to the parentage of Moses Butler, Sr. and Marietta Smith Butler in Cochran, Georgia. George attended Cochran High School and relocated to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1954.  He received Christ at an early age and joined St. Mark Baptist Church of St. Petersburg under the leadership of Pastor W. J. Glover.  He later served on the Usher Board under the leadership of Pastor Dale Brooks of Calvary Temple and Center Pointe Community Church now known as Grace Family Church currently under the leadership of Pastor Roy Taylor. George became a Mason of the Masonic Lodge. He was employed as a route Salesman with Foremost Dairy, Flavor Rich Dairy and Velda Farms in St. Petersburg, Florida.


He met and later married, Catherine Sconiers of Tampa, FL on November 6, 1971. This union was bless with two beautiful children, Alexander Butler, Sr. and Catheria Butler.  George was a devoted husband, father and servant of the Lord. 


There will be a viewing on Friday February 10, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 3000 N. 29thStreet, Tampa, Florida
