GEORGE CHIRONIS Obituary

CHIRONIS--George, 88, retired first vice president of Tishman Construction & Realty Corp. Former graduate of Brooklyn Polytech with a degree in civil engineering, passed away March 13, 2013 after complications of pneumonia. George spent more than fifty years overseeing many projects including Disney World, Epcot and the World Trade Center. His knowledge and experience included structural steel, office/field coordination, and reinforced concrete. Until recently, he was a construction consultant on the financial towers in lower Manhattan. He was a long time member and former president of the Concrete Industry Board, the BCA (Building Contractors Assoc.) and the Mayors Building Industry Advisory Council of the City of New York. Mr. Chironis was active in Philanthropic concerns as co-chairman of the annual construction industry luncheon of the greater New York council, Boy Scouts of America and the Lighthouse for the Blind Organization. During WWII, he served as first lieutenant navigator on B-17's transporting troops to and from the European campaign. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Mary, devoted sons Paul and Steven, daughter-in-Iaws Susan and Sally and cherished grandchildren Stavros, Dean, Joseph and Anna-Marie and dearest sister Helen Alexander. Family and friends may visit the Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Home 655 Old Country Road Plainview New York (516) 935-7100 on Monday and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral service Wednesday 9:30am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 20 Field Ave. Hicksville NY. Interment to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park East Farmingdale, NY. ln lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude's Charity.
