We all learned from George - and what a mentor he was! He would not want us to be sad but at this moment I am. His zest for life and care for others, his legendary humor and ability to connect, his always present curiosity and interest, his service to the nation...George exemplified so many fine things. Fortunate indeed where those of us that were given the chance to know him! My deepest condolences to Pat and family.

George
I knew George for a short time but I know I was blessed to have known him.
He opened his heart and home along with his loving wife. I was welcomed like an old family friend. He embraced life and his zest for it was contagious.
I have many blessings to be grateful for and knowing George is truly counted as one of my blessings.
George was like a shooting star jettisoning thru the sky. The flicker and sparkle are extinguished but the joy of the moment remains!
God bless you, George!

For all of his life's accomplishments (quite extensive and impactful as they are), I respected George's humility a lot. His broad intellectual acumen, curiosity, pride in our Corps, zest for life, and humor were awe inspiring. Our family has been very enriched by our friendship with George and Pat. Like my neighbor, Jim Hodges, Mary and I as well as my folks in Naples are also stunned by his unexpected passing. We pray for the repose of his soul and for Pat, daughters, and families. St. Pete is surely chuckling at the newest addition to the legion of Marines that have preceded George through the pearly gates.

George was a superb Marine and a better friend. He was brilliant and fearless. Innovative and caring. I am devastated at his passing. My love to his family.
