George was born in San Diego on January 11, 1976. He succumbed to his battle with cancer on his birthday, January 11, 2024. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family. George is survived by his parents, Rebecca and George, his brothers, Vincent and Gabriel, his children, Vanessa, Olivia, Natalie, Gabriel, Charlotte, Jordan, Landon and his grandchildren, Adan and Ayra.
George always knew he wanted to be a coach. He loved sports, especially football. He coached his first team at age 16 (flag football). He played quarterback for Palo Verde High School where he set passing records. As a senior, he was asked what he wanted to do in the future. He said, "I want to go to college and then come home to Palo Verde High to coach the Yellow Jackets." He spent his summers competing on the swim team, lifeguarding at the high school pool, and refereeing for city league sports.
George went to Chadron State College in Nebraska where he earned two degrees and teaching certificates. He earned one in Special Education to teach students with mild to moderate disabilities and one in Physical Education. He was first hired as a Special Ed teacher. He was always an advocate for special needs students. Later he taught P. E. He became the football coach and was known throughout his league for his air attack offense that brought excitement to every game, win or lose. He coached the Palo Verde Yellow Jackets from 2001-2018. He earned a Masters in Coaching and Athletics Administration and also worked as the Athletic Director. He coached the men's basketball team at Palo Verde Community College from 2020-2022.
He was devoted to his players and students. He was a champion. He spoke up for anyone that he saw being treated unfairly even if it cost him. He went on to work as a teacher at Ironwood State Prison. True to his character, he was dedicated and devoted to his students there too.
Coaching was his passion but when it came to his "babies", nothing could compare to the love he had for them. George liked being active and participating in exercises with his players, and even more so with his kids. His children have followed in his footsteps loving and participating in sports. He was their biggest fan and they were his.
George was a beloved son, father, grandfather, teacher, and coach. He impacted many lives and will be greatly missed. His legacy will never be forgotten and will continue to live on through his children, family and friends.
